Each year our brothers and sisters in the European Continental Province carry on the tradition of selecting Watchwords for the Unity Provinces, Mission Provinces and Unity Undertakings of the Moravian Church.
The 2018 Watchword for our Southern Province is drawn from the Daily Texts for January 10:
“O Lord, I will praise you; though you were angry with me, your anger is turned away, and you comfort me.” Isaiah 12:1
“God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 5:9
Sunday, March 4, we invite congregations and fellowship to observe Unity Prayer Day.
The Moravian Church (Unitas Fratrum) will celebrate 561 years of witness and service to our Lord on March 1. At the end of 2015, our worldwide Unity had 1.2 million members.
Our congregations around the world will join in prayer for God’s continued blessing and leading. You may want to use the 2018 Unity Prayer Watch Topics as a resource.
March 4 is also the day for receiving the annual Unity Offering. Moravian congregations across our world-wide Unity contribute to the Unity Offering to support a particular ministry in one of our Provinces. The 2018 Unity Offering will assist with the purchase of land to build a church office for the Moravian Church in Peru. This is one of the Unity Mission Areas with which our Board of World Mission is partnered.
Funds received may be directed to the Provincial Finance Office and should be clearly identified as “Unity Offering”.
Since 1957 the Unity Prayer Watch has assured that prayer for the work and witness of our world-wide Moravian Church is being offered somewhere in the world 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Prayer Watch is a renewal of the “hourly intercession”, begun in Herrnhut in 1727 which continued uninterrupted for 100 years.
The time assigned to members of our Southern Province is January 1 to 18, 2018. A schedule of prayer has been provided to each congregation. Here is a link to the 2018 Unity Prayer Watch Topics.
